Data office hours are an informal event where all students, faculty, and staff across Pittsburgh can drop by and have consultations with library experts in all things digital- and data-related. This can mean anything from just learning how to get working on the command line on your computer; getting an introduction to the wide array of data visualization, GIS, text analysis, and data mining research methods available; or having a brief consultation about a specific research or pedagogical project. Our team can help you across the research lifecycle, including data curation, digitization, metadata, and scholarly communications expertise including using CMU鈥檚 institutional repository, KiltHub.

The Libraries provide a number of resources and services that support the use, preparation, management, curation, and preservation of research data. Creating visuals (graphs, charts, interactive infographics, etc.) is an essential part of working with data. CMU Libraries offers a number of ways to make the most out of your making graphs, workshops on recommended practices and data visualization tools, consultations with students or faculty, as well as guest lectures in courses around visual analyses.

KiltHub is a comprehensive institutional repository platform, provided by the University Libraries and hosted on figshare, where Carnegie Mellon University researchers and their collaborators can share the scholarly outputs and research data produced in the course of their research. KiltHub curates, collects, preserves, and provides open access to this material as part of the Libraries' commitment to open scholarship and collaboration.

Text and data mining (TDM) are becoming increasingly popular ways to conduct research. They entail using automated tools to process large volumes of digital content to identify and select relevant information and discover previously unknown patterns or connections. CMU Libraries offers support for text and data mining in all academic disciplines through providing access to TDM databases such as the ProQuest TDM Studio, consultations on recommended practices for TDM, and educational workshops.

OSDC is a聽Libraries program supporting collaborative, transparent, openly accessible, and reproducible research across all disciplines. We recognize that automating research workflows and documenting code and datasets is essential to making research more efficient, interdisciplinary, and reusable.
